Last Weeks News
The Tennis Roadshow was great! We had lots of fun activities that helped us learn about tennis. We practiced using a tennis ball with our feet then we bounced and caught the ball. Our coach gave us a tennis racquet each and we hit the ball over the net to our partners. We can join the Kaiapoi Tennis Club and learn more about playing tennis in the summer.
A speaker talked to us about Red Nose Day and how our fund raising helps very sick children.
Another speaker came to Whanau Time and showed us a film about a boy who lives in Cambodia. KBS is going to sponsor him and his village so they can all have a better life.
Harold is back! We went to visit his caravan last week and we have one more visit today. Harold told us it is important to eat variety of food everyday.

Hello from Studio 2
We are visiting the library every Tuesday afternoon. We have turns at choosing a non-fition book so we get to read different styles of books.
We are going to read lots of Fairy Tales in the next few weeks. If you are coming to the disco tonight you can dress up as your favourite Fairy Tale character!
Every day after lunch we are feeding our brains with the yummy milk.
Our discovery table has a balance on it and we are experimenting with lots of junk to make it balance.
Swimming is great and we are learning new skills and improving each week - going in the deep pool and touching the bottom and coming up to the surface again, doing big arm circles on our back and tummy, and gliding from the top steps.

Studio 2 have got warm and cosy feet every day. Our slippers are wonderful.
We loved the performance of the "Big Sad Wolf". We laughed at the funny bits.
At science we put dry ice inside balloons. The balloons had steam coming from them. We carried them carefully back to Studio 2 and we hung them up high to see what would happen. After a while we heard a loud BANG. The balloons had exploded because they had expanded too much.
Science is very exciting and Mrs Rintoul has lots of ideas for each session.
We are talking about things to do on rainy days when we can't go outside at home. Lots of ideas about board games, toys and using imagination. Visiting the Kaiapoi Library on the way home from school is a cool thing to do.
Studio 2 did a great job at hosting Whanau Time on 15th May. Jacob and Kayvarne were wonderful announcers. Everyone read their Autumn poems with lovely loud voices. Our poems are on display in our Studio..
Please feel free to let your child wear gumboots on wet days as our playground gets very wet.
All the children have signed the KBS Digital Agreement and it is kept in class folders. There is a copy on the wall by our yellow door for you and it is also on the KBS Website.
We were all very excited about the success of the J-Rock group and loved their performance in the school hall before the "big night".

Welcome to Term 2.
We got new slippers and we wear them everyday inside our room.
The slippers are very warm.
They are very cosy.
We have made a Thank you card for Mrs Boot who knitted them. Our slippers are all different colours.
We have started Gymnastics this term. It's really wonderful. We walked on the beam and jumped off the step.
Our swimming lessons have started at Dudley Park Pool. We are so lucky to go there every Monday this term. The bus ride there and back is lots of fun too.
Some visitors came today. Meg and Chris are teachers. Meg comes from Canada and Chris comes from
America. We sang the National Anthem for them and they clapped and said it sounded really great. We asked them questions and took them on a walk around our school. They loved the trees and our big playground. We showed them the new murals on the classrooms. They loved them all.
Today we listened to some music and had to decide whether it had a beat or not. We have been learning about keeping the beat at Shine Time Music.

We are enjoying visiting the Library every Tuesday. We have turns at getting a fiction or non-fiction books to read.
Kaiapoi is going to get a big, new library soon. When the building is finished we are going to visit it.
Mitchell and Madison were our gardeners for the Gardening Group today.
We practiced water safety at Swimming today. We had life-jackets on and we know that we have to float on our backs if we get tipped out of a boat or the water is too deep for us. Life-jackets keep us floating. We floated in the pool and we did starfish in the life-jackets. We felt safe. We know that we have to wear life-jackets if we go out in a boat, canoe or kayak.
Felix the frog said" I will be hungry on Monday. I hope someone brings me some flies, worms or spiders to eat".

On Friday we got a new member of Studio 2. Kayvarne showed us his frog "Felix" and we can have him in Studio 2. We had to get a home ready for him and think about some food for him to eat.
Kayvarne told us Felix came from Kaikoura. We had a discussion about frogs to find out what we know.
Frogs eat flies and spiders.
Frogs can jump.
Felix was a tadpole and then he turned into a frog.
Frogs grow from eggs.
Courtney and Nikita know how to catch flies.
At the weekend Mrs McKenzie came to check on Felix and feed him some spiders. He was hungry.
We love having Felix in our Studio.
