Swimming has started and we are going to bring our togs everyday so we can improve our swimming skills.

We are SO excited! A trailer load of healthy soil has arrived for our garden in the planter box!
We can plant some of our seeds that have grown in our classroom.
If you have any cuttings of small flowers we would love to have them to grow with our veges.
Our garden is going to be great with lots of color and veges to eat.

Monday, 5 November 2012

We are all going to try and remember to bring a grocery item for the P.T.A. Christmas Raffle.
Remember the  Junior Athletics are on Thursday. Bring you lunch and enjoy picnic.

Wednesday, 31 October 2012

Today there are 3 Newsletters to read. We are making a big effort to remember to wear our sun hats everyday, bring a drink bottle of water and have a piece of fruit to eat for morning tea and for lunch. We have been learning about 5+a day and it would be great if everyone had at least 2 pieces of fruit or vegetable everyday.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our Junior Sports next Thursday.

Tuesday, 16 October 2012

It's great to be back at K.B.S. and catch up with all our friends.
The weather is warmer and we need our drink-bottles and sun-hats everyday. Sun-hats are best left in desks for all of Term 4. KBS hats are preferred as  they are part of our school uniform.
The seeds we planted have sprouted and soon we will be able to plant them in the garden.
We are practicing our athletic skills for the Junior Sports on Thursday, 8th November at 1-15pm. A reminder will be sent home closer to the day.
At Jump-Jam today we learnt a new dance called "Crocodile Snap".  We need more practice to learn all the moves.
Our published books are all finished. Have a read when you next visit Studio 2. We are very proud of our efforts.

Thursday, 27 September 2012

The last week of the term has arrived very quickly. On Tuesday Jed and Chris from Sport Canterbury came to show us some cricket skills. We learnt how to throw the ball and catch by making a basket with our hands. We had to say "Basket, close it and chest" so we wouldn't drop it. We had turns hitting the ball with the bat and we learnt to have the bat  on the flat side. They taught us some games like snowball and ball basket.
At Art class we finished our Spring paintings and they look fabulous.
Yesterday and today we worked on our calendars and have them finished. They are ready to be laminated and will be for sale next term.
We performed our song and played musical instruments at Whanau Time. We thought we made a brilliant effort and everyone clapped. Jamie and Kaylee did a fantastic job as our announcers.

This week we have been writing CHAPTER STORIES1
We wrote about a sad chimp and we used our GREEN HAT and our imagination for ideas.
Our stories are super.
Next we have to illustrate our stories and make covers for them.
We are really glad that we can keep coming to KBS because there are happy kids here and we get to learn more each day. KBS is a great place to learn!

Today we did some planting - Phelix
We put our names on the pottles so we would know who  they belong to. Alfie
Next we used a spoon to put soil in our potholes. Isaac
The seeds had to be put in carefully up the right way.
Then we had to cover the seed with more soil. Steph
All the pottles were put in ice-cream containers and put on the table in the sun. Libby
Now all we have to do is wait until our courgettes grow and we can eat them, Yum, yum.

Here are the "happenings this week!

Singing Twinkle Twinkle Vegemite with Noah playing on the keyboard.

Making blossom trees and learning facts about Seasons and Spring,
Making paper daffodils - they really make our room look like Spring!
We wrote stories about Spring.

Today our poem was about a hairdryer. We had to use our Blue and Green Hats to design a hair dyer. We had to think about color, shape, power cord, on/off buttons, hot and cold buttons. We had a vote for the best design and Jade won!

We think Sophie Pascoe is great to win all those medals at the Olympics and she only has one leg to make her swim the fastest!.

The Patiki Production was awesome. Some of us had a brother or a sister in it. The costumes were great. Some of them were sparkly. Darth Vader was cool! We liked the way the dog did his acting.
The singing was really brilliant and the children remembered the words. When we are in Year 3 we hope we can be in a production.
Today is Kase's last day and we wish him the best for his move to Australia. We will miss Kase. He might email us or write a letter and tell us know about his new school.

Tuesday, 14 August 2012

Yesterday it was a wet day so we sang our rainy day songs.
We used pieces of paper and round lids to cut out lots of circles. We called each circle a lemon meringue pie. Jamie said," Folding the circles was a good way to figure out fractions". We had to cut the "pies" into pieces and work out which pieces were half, quarter or eighths. Next we glued the pieces into our books.
The Clouds group read a book about dinosaurs. After reading they pretended they were dinosaurs escaping from the volcano. They presented their stories to the class. Their stories were written on  dinosaur shapes.

We are presenting our animal research for news this week. We do an audience check to make sure everyone is looking at the speaker. Our voices have to be loud and clear. This is what we think about the talks so far.
Kase " We did lots of work on them".
Stephanie, "Some of them are very long because there is lots of information about the animals"
Nerissa," I leant a lot about foxes from Jade's presentation".
Mitchell," I liked Libby's because she gave lots of polar bear facts and information."

We had 3 in each group and we worked together, listening and helping each other. The paper was divided into thirds so we each had a space for our sentences. At the end of writing time each group had a turn at presenting their story. It was a great way of working with different people in our studio.

This afternoon we have been working on our giraffe art. We watched a video showing giraffes in Africa. We cut out brown shapes to glue on. Some of our giraffes look like Harold. At Whanau time we saw the movie of Mr George's Studio  when they were filmed by CTV. You can see it on our KBS Face book.

Reflection of the Day.

Today we have been learning about things that float and things that sink. We put water in a big container and then we put some objects in to see if they would sink or float. One thing had an air bubble under it and it floated. One plastic thing could float and sink because of its shape. We have been busy publishing our "Elephant in the KBS Library" stories and had fun at Jump-Jam and Singing. the Coconut dance was our favourite.
